I got a very apologetic email from Amazon.com today, agreeing with me that the page for Practically Shameless need not have revered to not-yet-published status just because there are only 3 books left in inventory. The man who wrote apologized for the frustration and inconvenience (I really felt very stressed about it on Sunday) and said he'd referred the matter to technical support. The page should say something like "temporarily out of stock," and he couldn't explain why it doesn't. It helps to know that at least they recognize and own up to the problem.

The ten customer reviews posted as of Saturday should reappear as soon as more books arrive in inventory, and I shipped 26 more books today, which will probably arrive there on Thursday and take a few days getting entered into their computer. The man who wrote gave me the name of the department to contact if the reviews don't reappear, which is very helpful to know but I hope I don't need it. I wish I had printed out the reviews while they were up so I could help the reviewers redo them if necessary (God forbid), but at least I know who they all were because I sent each of them a thank-you via email, and perhaps they received some kind of email copy of their reviews.

In the meantime, I've discovered that the "Search Inside This Book" feature is beginning to work, though very slowly and inarticulately. When I search the book itself for a name I know it contains, I get no results. But when I search Amazon.com as a whole for one of the names mentioned in the Acknowledgments, lo and behold, the book shows up in the search results! The results should also say "Excerpt" followed by a quotation from the book in which the search term appears, and that doesn't happen yet but will eventually.
